Q: I'm looking for a copy of the Juneau Empire from 7/2/78 for a birthday gift. Can I get a photocopy from you? Thank you, Johanna
A: The downtown branch of the Public Library and the State library have the Juneau Empire on microfilm. The Juneau Public Library has years 1887-2017. The State Library should have the same range as well. JPL charges $0.15 per copy, and while the machine is easy to use/load there are probably only a handful of staff comfortable showing you how to use it. If you haven't used the microfilm machine recently and want to be sure to get help, I'd recommend the State Library. The State library's microfilm machines are also little nicer than JPL's because you can print copies, save to an usb drive, or send to an e-mail address. That said, the State Library has more restricted hours. I believe their hours are Tuesday-Friday, 10am-4pm. Happy searching.
