About Anderson Japanese Gardens
In 2023, Anderson Japanese Gardens celebrates its 25th year as a non-profit public garden. Anderson Gardens has been recognized as one of the highest quality Japanese gardens in North America by Sukiya Living Magazine. With the ongoing guidance of designer Hoichi Kurisu, a swampy backyard in Rockford, Illinois, has transformed over decades into a 12-acre landscape which leads guests through elements of stone, landscape, and water. Master craftsmanship and 16th century architecture are found throughout the Garden. Anderson Japanese Gardens works to deliver the mission to "open minds to a different culture while offering guests a place of peace and tranquility where they will find healing, renewal, inspiration, and a reenergized soul."
