About Peabody Institute Library of Danvers
The Peabody Institute is the public library of Danvers, Massachusetts, A Gothic style library was built at Peabody Park in 1869. On July 2, 1890, a spectacular fire destroyed the library building. The Boston architectural firm of Little, Brown and Moore was chosen and local architect Lester S. Crouch did the bulk of the design for the new Georgian Revival structure. The building was dedicated on October 19, 1892. In 1963, a remodeled basement area was dedicated for use as a Children's Room and as stacks. In 1980, a renovation and addition provided new space for the Children's Room, the Archives and to create the 2nd and 3rd floors for stacks in place of the former auditorium.
