Featured Question

Q: What's with the mandatory 20% tip? This should be based on the service you're getting, correct?

A: I think a lot of places are starting to move to the 20% mandatory tip, especially smaller business locations. It's to compensate for either poor CS skills to help the employee pay their bills so the business can keep the employee and hold the "look what I've done for you" excuse over their heads to keep them from asking for raises. Most companies do it to maintain control over their workers and make them feel like they're easily replaceable. It's also why you see a lot of "were hiring" signs, even if they aren't actively taking applications, they have a list of backups so they can easily replace you if you do choose to question that control. Either that or cuz they're small and don't have a lot of business so they need to set a minimum so the waitor/waitress gets paid something worthwhile. They probably only pay the $3.25 server minimum wage for Idaho, and "pay" them in tips to cut costs and dig into our wallets more for more cash flow .
